We were asked to write a brief on a product/service a
s it was conceived before the release of the product. I chose CROCS.My brief was way too long, and detailed, it needed to backtrack more, so I rewrote it.
This is what I wrote:
Background
-'Croslite' foam resin is discovered
-Exclusive rights are acquired by Boedecker, and he wants a product to be created from it.
-The material is very unique. It is not like anything already in existence.
-The material's properties are:
Rubbery and soft
Hard and durable
Can be coloured
Takes shape of an object applying pressure on it
Waterproof
Lightweight
Insulating
OptionsIt could be used to make mattresses (as it would cushion the body) which would be comfortable and light, and easy to maintain and carry around.
It could be used as cushioning material for impact areas. (Shock absorber for delicate parts)
It could be used as an insulating material for electronics.
It could be used for waterproofing products.
Design
Use the cushioning property of the material to protect high impact areas(absorb shock) of the body or delicate objects and keep them away from water.
Constraints-High price
-Dense material(not airy) thus, requires holes (when enclosed) for air circulation.
-Non-recyclable
Suggestions
-Product can be protective body gear like elbow/knee caps or inner helmet lining.
-Product can be used for cushioning heels of feet while walking (impact area).
SWOT
Strength: New material, useful properties. The properties of the material are suited to a variety of things, and ideal to work with. Being made of an unusual and new material with varied and useful properties is a good thing to advertise about the product.
Weakness:
Brief
Design limitations
It must be a necessity; something people need and use daily.
It must make a fashion statement; the design must be aesthetic.
It must be something the consumer uses on his body (wearable) and is easy to carry around(light).
It must not be expensive to manufacture, as the material itself is expensive.
